About us

The One Voice Singers are a group of people who have one thing in commmon - we all LOVE singing! We sing songs from various different artists, from Abba to ZZ Top (well, not actually ZZ Top as yet - Sharp Dressed Man - anyone?) - if people suggest a song we will usually give it a go and see whether or not it works!

You can find our Facebook page at: https://www.facebook.com/Onevoice singers

The One Voice Singers started life as The Studio Singers, but with our venue change we decided we needed a new name. We thought it would be good to have a connection with Paul's 1Voice Studio, and so One Voice Singers were born.

The One Voice Singers are taught by Paul Hudson.

Paul’s professional music and theatre career began in 1992 teaching singing in several dance and drama schools in the south of England. After a stint touring the UK circuit as a Stage Manager, Director and Performer Paul moved to Aberdeen in 2001 to become a senior vocal coach at The Music Room.Since then he has been involved in six pantomimes for Qdos at His Majesty’s Theatre, directed several plays and musicals and was a Creative Learning Worker for Aberdeen Performing Arts directing their Young Persons Company and Studio Singers.Paul is a full member of The Incorporated Society of Musicians and until March 2013 was a part time Singing Lecturer at The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland for three years on their MA and BA Music Theatre Courses.He currently runs the Alzheimer Scotland, Aberdeen, Musical Memories project and Directs two singing groups in the city: The One Voice Singers and the TOTAL UK staff Diversity Choir as well as running a busy teaching, coaching and consultancy practice.

Together with Paul, we are lucky enough to have Ross Whyte as our pianist.

Ross is a composer based in Aberdeen, Scotland. He recently completed his PhD at the University of Aberdeen where his field of research was concerned with audio-visual intermedia and headphone-specific composition. He composes in a wide variety of mediums which include solo and ensemble instrumental, electroacoustic, audio-visual installation, dance, theatre and film. His compositional output in recent years has explored erosion through reproduction and often contains the underlying theme of impermanence. Ross has received several awards including the Chris Cadwur James Award for Composition, two Derek Ogston Postgraduate Scholarships and a grant from the Aberdeen Endowments Trust for a Subsequent Degree (PhD).

Members of the One Voice Singers are made up of people (well, okay, we are all ladies at this moment in time - but guys are always more than welcome!) from Aberdeen and the surrounding area who love singing, but may have been put off joining other choirs for fear of auditions! We believe that everyone who wants to sing, probably can sing with a little encouragement and guidance.

When asked why we do what we do people have answered the following;

"I come here because I love singing and I like Paul's class - I enjoy everyone's company!"

"It makes me happy. I feel energized and full of life."

"As a group we all do get on very well - everyone is supportive of one another. Most of all it is such FUN!"

"I love the camaraderie we enjoy with everyone. We have a fantastic mix of personalities, long may it continue!"
